Specialist Therapy for Children, Teens & Adults. Face to Face and Online
Welcome, and thank you for visiting Ross Cormack Psychotherapy. I am a psychotherapist providing both short- and long-term therapy to Children, Teens & Adults in Hove.
Before training as a Psychotherapist I started my career working as a Youth and Community Worker obtaining a BA (Hons) degree in 2005. I've worked in a variety of roles in inner city youth centres, as a detached youth worker and within targeted interventions addressing youth crime and community based projects nationally with young people from areas of deprivation.
I qualified as a Child & Adolescent Counsellor in 2015 and completed my Psychotherapy Master Degree in 2019. Alongside my training I spent a total of 14 years working with bereaved children and families for a national charity. I’ve spent the last 5 years working in private practice part-time, delivering therapy to fostered and adopted clients and working as the Clinical Lead for an NHS commissioned adolescent mental health service in the charity sector.
I’m also EMDR trained and have been delivering this therapy to children, teenagers and adults for over 4 years. I’ve also trained as a clinical supervisor combining my therapeutic , management and youth work supervision experience.
I primarily work with children and teenagers delivering psychotherapy which is a very effective approach to address a wide range of emotional and mental health concerns. In my practice I provide attachment focused therapy that emphasises relationships and connections with others.
Through my support your child or teenager will be able to explore their experiences and emotions in a safe and collaborative setting. For parents and carers I work hard to help them understand their child’s difficulties and any challenging behaviours they're displaying. I have specialist training in observation, mental health awareness, and in using play and creative approaches to adapt therapy to the interests and needs of the child or teen I'm working with.
I'm EMDR trained which is a specific therapy for addressing trauma and other difficulties. In single traumatic events we work through a structured approach to address the impact of trauma, following a period of assessment we work to ensure stability and safety before addressing traumatic events directly. For those that have more complex presentations of trauma this is often blended with psychotherapy sessions and takes apace over a longer period of time.
I work from private offices located in Suite 306, The Dock Hub, Wilbury Villas, Hove, BN3 6AH, and see clients from Brighton & Hove, West Sussex, North London, South London, and Surrey.
In addition to providing face-to-face therapy, I also offer online sessions for clients in these areas and beyond via Teams.
Psychotherapy sessions last 50 minutes, although for younger children we may agree to a shorter time, and cost £80 per session. I will work with a parent or carer for an initial assessment before meeting a child, and depending on the reasons for referral this may be for up to 3 sessions.
For teenagers under 16 this can be a joint meeting and with over 16’s I’m happy to meet individually.
EMDR sessions are charged at £90 per session, for 50 minutes. For adults we may need to extend some sessions to 90 minutes which are charged at £110 per session.
For specialist work including social care and looked after clients please contact me for fees.
I require payment for the first assessment session in advance to secure the booking. I require 48 hours notice for cancellations otherwise you will need to pay for the missed session. I accept payment in cash, or by bank transfer.
Feel free to contact me if you have any questions about how psychotherapy works or to arrange an initial assessment appointment. This allows us to discuss your reasons for seeking psychotherapy, explore whether it may be helpful for you, and determine if I am the right therapist to support you.
You can also call me on 07901145127 if you'd prefer to leave a message or speak with me directly. I’m happy to discuss any questions you may have before arranging an initial appointment.
